Weekend in Orlando

Last weekend Greg and I took a road trip to Orlando to visit my sister Brooke and our grandparents. The six hour drive is short enough to make for an easy weekend trip, but long enough that we don’t get to do it nearly enough. Brooke, my “sista hood of the traveling pants,” is my best friend and we always make the most of our time together.
We started the weekend off on the right foot by taking a group trip to the gym. Brooke shook her booty off in Zumba, something I’ve tried and failed at before, so I hit the treadmill. As boring as treadmills can be sometimes, being in a new environment automatically makes the time fly by more quickly for me. Even if I am just staring out a window.

The rest of the days were spent lounging by the pool, enjoying my grandma’s delicious meals, and visiting SeaWorld. We decided to be adventurous at the Shamu show and sat in the Soak Zone. Soaked just about sums it up!

Our nights consisted of many-a-margarita from our favorite place, Agave Azul. Brooke has become a regular there, probably their favorite customer I would guess, so we always get the hook-up from the bartenders.

We also grabbed a glass of wine and some flatbreads from Eola Wine Company in Winter Park one night. It was my first time in Winter Park and I loved it. It’s a cute area with lots of shops and restaurants that I would love to try in the future.

As always, the weekend went by a little too fast, but we had a great mini-vacation. Now I’m looking forward to another long weekend ahead, staying in town this time, with the 4th of July on Friday. Fireworksss!
Thank you Brooke, GG and Paw Paw for the hospitality! xoxo
What was the highlight of your weekend?

Happy, Happy, Happy

Thank goodness for Friday and thank goodness for peanut butter banana toast. Am I right or am I right?

It’s been one of “those” weeks. Not to say it’s been a bad week, just busy, busy, busy. But you know what makes me happy, happy, happy? It’s duck hunting season! Jussssst kiddingggg. I don’t hunt and want nothing to do with it actually.

Okay now I’m just confusing you. Let me explain. Do you watch Duck Dynasty? It’s one of the few “man” shows Greg watches that I actually find entertaining too. Si! Oh my gosh, Si. He CRACKS ME UP! The rest of the show seems so extremely scripted, it only drives me a little crazy, but Si is so funny I don’t even care. The new season just started and one of the new episodes focused on the start of duck hunting season. Phil, the dad/grandpa on the show, always says, “happy, happy, happy.” Maybe you just need to hear it for yourself.

One reason I am happy, happy, happy is because I had such a great evening throwing a bridal shower for my friend and co-worker. We went to Uncorked Wine Bar for drinks and appetizers.

It was so much fun celebrating Kaitlyn’s upcoming wedding and made me even more excited for my own. I had a flight of three different red wines – a malbec, merlot and syrah. We munched on spinach dip, a variety of cheeses, mac and cheese, chocolate truffles, and some chocolate chip cupcakes I brought for everyone. So delicious! Oh, and they manager was so kind to bring us all a complimentary glass of champagne! It was the perfect touch.

Another reason to be happy, happy, happy? More cupcakes! Not that I really need another cupcake right now, but hey, I’ll take it.

Did you know today is National Employee Appreciation Day? I don’t think there is anything better for our management to express their appreciation like a red velvet cupcake! I’ll be eating this for dessert tonight and cannot wait.

I am also happy, happy, happy, because in a couple hours Greg, Zoey and I will be on our way to North Carolina for a last minute weekend getaway at his parents’ house. I’m looking forward to relax and do a bunch of nothing 🙂
Have a good one!

Light Meals and Pancake Wine

Today I have one of those “what I ate” posts for you. I know, I know…What I really need to do is get myself in the kitchen, put an apron on, and bake something sweet. It’s been too long. And it is about time I go all out to make up for lost time.

Maybe today. Maybe tomorrow.

Until then, here are some tasty ideas for everyday eating.

As part of my lunch yesterday, I had cottage cheese mixed with blueberries and strawberries.

I have always liked cottage cheese, but mostly only ate it plain, with salt and pepper shaken on top. At some point in the past year or so, I saw someone mix berries into cottage cheese and gave it a try. Now that is by far my favorite way to eat it.
The center of my lunch was this wrap. I stayed at my desk to eat, which usually works out fine if I don’t have something too messy or that doesn’t need much preparation.
I allowed myself a little bit of meat to make this wrap more substantial. Into the whole wheat tortilla went two slices of deli sliced buffalo chicken breast, roasted red pepper hummus, chopped onion, tomato and spring mix greens. Yum. So fresh and light. The best kind of lunch!
By the time dinner rolled around, Greg and I were more indecisive than usual. Stay home? Go out? If we go out, where should we go? The options in Charleston are endless.
Greg finally made the executive decision to go to one of our favorites places, Coleman Public House

Old trusty CPH never let’s us down. I was in the mood for something lighter for my entree since we ordered some Truffle Parmesan French Fries as an appetizer, and I knew I’d be helping Greg with his mac and cheese 😉 I ordered the Greek Salad, my first salad ever from CPH, and just like everything else I’ve had, it was delicious.
We got home after dinner and I poured myself a glass of this white wine from Trader Joe’s that I had opened the night before while having a girls night with a friend.

I think you can guess the reason why I bought it in the first place. I am more of a red wine girl, but really enjoyed this white. Especially for less than five dollars. It had nothing to do with the name though. Nope, not at all.
I woke up this morning and got my workout out of the way, because in about twenty minutes I’m leaving to try on wedding dresses! Since the shop I’m going to is right by the new Chipotle in town, I’m thinking it only makes sense to pick up a burrito bowl for lunch.
Just one good thing followed by another….
Life is good.

Burgerz and Wine

Good morning! How is your week going so far? Just about half way through! Do I say that every Wednesday? Sorry.
This past weekend, Greg and I knocked out two Groupons in one. I may or may not be on my way to becoming a crazy coupon lady….Ok, I only wish I could actually be one of those people who MAKE money off of using coupons at the grocery store. For now, I will settle for 50% burgers and wine.
First, we headed to Wine Awhile, which I like to describe as Menchie’s for wine. You prepay for a card, then insert that card to a wine-dispensing machine. There were about 24 different wines to choose from and you can get a taste ($1-2), half a glass ($3-4) or whole glass ($5-6) at a time.
Greg and I both love our reds- Merlots and Malbecs are our favorites. I did have a glass of red, but for some reason that night I was in the mood to try a white and I really enjoyed it. I should have payed more attention to the names of what I was drinking, but all of the choices were a little overwhelming so I just randomly picked a couple of different ones.
A restaurant called Vino Burgerz is attached to Wine Awhile, and has a full menu of burgers that lists a recommended wine or beer with each one (they also have appetizers and salads).
I bought the Vino Burgerz Groupon a week or so ago, figuring we could use it at the same time and that’s just what we did. Since the restaurant was full, we were even able to sit at Wine Awhile and be served our food there.
Greg had the Sunshine Burger- a beef burger topped with bacon and egg. I was more than jealous of his sweet potato chips on the side. I don’t know what I was thinking not opting for those instead of regular fries.

I had the black bean burger. It was fairly spicy, which I really liked, and topped with corn salsa and a touch of sour cream. I haven’t had too many black bean burgers in my day, so without much to compare it to, it was good, but not great.
Both of our burgers were about $9-10.
We had a good time and the self-serve wine is a great concept. I think Wine Awhile has live music every now and then, so I would be interested in going for that. Otherwise, I don’t know if we will return, but it was well worth the try, especially since we got all 5-6ish glasses of wine and two full meals for half off. Woohoo!

Time to get on with my day. Have a good one!
